The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company Ltd – Integrated Management System
The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, an international manufacturer of horticultural products, engaged us to assist in the development of an Integrated Management System (IMS) to the BSI PAS 99 Standard.
This involved first achieving certification to ISO14001, (the international standard for Environmental Man- agement Systems, EMS) and BS OHSAS 18001 (the British standard for health and safety) under one umbrella management system. The ISO9001 Quality System documentation also needed developing to be assimilated with the IMS.
The certifications were achieved ahead of schedule and this was instrumental in the company becoming an ’A’ rated supplier to a major international client.
Following certifications we developed a 5 year Energy and Carbon Management Plan for the UK sites.
Results:
- Identified both site and management system improvement projects to deliver energy sav- ings and reduce carbon emissions. Range from low/no cost projects to long term strategic developments.
- Identified annual cost savings of £273,600, a cost saving of 20.2% p.a.
- CO2 savings represented by the Plan after 5 years of 1,269 tonnes p.a. – a 16% reduction
on current emissions.
Average simple payback: 1.35 years.
